17 Ways to Reinvent Yourself

Excellence is the minimum. Follow Me. Sign Up.

How do I reinvent myself?

Whatever you are looking to reinvent about yourself know that it’s going to take discipline to stay on track. #NoDaysOff When it comes to reinventing yourself you have to understand and decide on one thing. Who do you want it to matter to the most? Is it for yourself or for the people around you? If it’s for you, then you cannot be afraid to change a few things you aren’t happy with. I mean, we go through our lives every day in our pursuit of happiness and if certain portions of our lives aren’t bringing us happiness then change is a very feasible option.

If it’s for the people around you, your followers, or even your clients then it can be a bit more delicate. I always say “Every time you open your mouth, you’re telling the world who you are. So make it count.” What is it you want your audience to see? What is it you’re looking to change and how dramatic of a change will it be to the people that already support you? Just some things to think about before you start your journey. I’ve come up with a list of ways for reinventing yourself.

You can use any or all of these ways of reinventing yourself:

     Click Photo to Sign Up
  1. Decide what areas of your life you want to reinvent. (Also, look at how this change affects the other parts of your life.)
  2. Make a list of the changes you’re looking to make. Get specific. It’s more about the smaller details that will affect the habits you are looking to change or enhance.
  3. Evaluate the changes and how it will affect you and the people around you.
  4. Evaluate how you present yourself and the subtle changes you can make to make those engagements impactful.
  5. TAKE ACTION!
  6. Find people that you would like to learn from or collaborate with in this change. They may know more about its effects than you do at the moment.
  7. Look for people that inspire you. Added inspiration to an already powerful and motivated fire is like adding fuel to it. It will only drive more action.
  8. Read. Research. Study. – If you’re going to try something even if you think it’s new, it probably is a derivative or originated in some way from something else. Research it and give it real meaning.
  9. Be persistent. You want this change more than anyone and only you understand why it means so much. Let the world see that meaning.
  10. TAKE ACTION!
  11. Use Clarity, Communication and Collaboration. You’ll get better the more you take action with it.
  12. Explore new areas of your city or other locations. See the difference in personalities and how much they are drawn to you.
  13. Ask a lot of questions. Know any mentors or consultants… hint-hint… wink-wink. ;)
  14. TAKE ACTION!
  15. Seek new information, knowledge and ideas.
  16. Consistency is the key, when it comes to reinvention. Stay with it!
  17. TAKE ACTION! (I think you get it by now.)

I want you to do this exercise: Put your arms down at your side. Now, raise your arms out to the side as if you were a human version of the capital letter ‘T’. Now reach all the way up where your hands touch way above your head. Got it? Now realize all of that space from your side all the way to the top of your head. That is your comfort zone. Now I want you to pick a spot on the other side (far side) of the room. It doesn’t matter how far, just far enough where it is out of your immediate reach. If where you stand is your comfort zone, would you be able to get to the spot on the other side of the room without moving? Probably not! But by taking a step toward the spot you are leaving your comfort zone (taking action) and to reinvent yourself, that’s exactly what you’re going to need to do.

Good Luck!

Regards

How do I get people to check out my music?

Does talking to people work for your business?

It should!

If it doesn't then you're missing out. Stop just sounding like a robot and get out and talk with people.

Conversations and drip mail still work.

Above all build relationships with your audience. Begin with people you know and actually check on what they're doing. I always say, "when networking and building relationships, it should be more about them than it is about you." Find out what their doing and what inspires them. The conversation moves to a dialogue about them to a mental trigger called "reciprocity" (Jeff Walker) that then has them ask about you. Now you have an open platform to promote yourself as they had. Make sure you have a simple and direct call to action to what you wish for them to do. Got it?

Do You Really Need a Manager?

Do You Really Need a Manager?

You may honestly think you do and that may be so but do you know what a manager is supposed to do for you? What kind of asset is he/her to your current level? Will your manager have to wear more hats than necessary? Remember your manager is not your ATM or your booking agent. They are theoretically a knowledgeable guide or an individual or company who guides the professional career of artists in the entertainment industry.
What if you could manage yourself? Some of you already are. But what if you learned and applied the knowledge in how to manage yourself in the real world. You see, a friend of mine told me this, "for an artist to be successful, they must either listen extremely well or have a lot of money." If you're the ladder then you have expendable income to be able to make mistakes and it not really effect your finances. If you're like the many artists that I've met over the years, finances are not as dispensable and every dollar spent is crucial. Now, what if you were taught how to hire people to your team, how to network and how to build a proper fan base (outside of just social media)? What if you were shown how to make a profit in the same system that has been keeping you out of ring. Would you be interested? Then what's stopping you from applying these principles? I do have the answers. I guarantee you would be much more productive than you are right now and all you'll need is a little bit of money to do it. Oh, but you're still going to need to listen extremely well for it to work.

I've conducted market research and asked a significant number of talent and professionals, around the U.S., questions about what they would consider a need in order to have a career in today’s music business.
Questions such as:
• Other than money, what struggles does an Independent Artist go through?
• What’s the biggest misconception that independent talents have?
• How do I build a real fan base and make money?

After compiling the information gathered and deliberating on the most important effects, I have been on a mission to help talent that is willing to devote their time into building a business from their entertainment careers.

So, guess what? I'm going to write a book on artist development. Stay tuned.

Can someone be successful without a mentor?

Can someone be successful without a mentor?

Yes, you can be successful without a mentor but in actuality you have mentors all around you. Mentors can help you get to your success faster and help you avoid simple and catastrophic mistakes too. It doesn't necessarily need to be a single person you've hired or someone that has taken you under their wing, it can be your experiences, your trials and errors and the moments you engage in. It could be how you how you see the world and how you operate in it.

I never really had a mentor so I always thought I would be alone in getting to my success but I remembered something from my freshman year in psychology. My professor said to the class, "regardless if you come to class or not, I still get a check. If you pass or not, I still get a check. This isn't high school. College isn't about what it gives you, it's about what you take from it." I have applied this philosophy to everything I ever done in life since then. That became my mentor. I became my own mentor.

I still help others and if you like you can join my Power List to get advice, tips and mentoring lessons a few times a month at no charge. :)

Some encouragement about your business.

Happy Morning,

I thought this was an AWESOME post I found and I figured I'd share it with you all.

How do you know if your business idea already exists?

"The founder of Dropbox was pitching in front of an investor one day, and the investor asked him: "there are similar companies out there doing the same as dropbox, why should I invest in just another similar company?"

His reply: "Yes. There are similar companies out there doing the same as dropbox. But do you use any of them?"

"No."

"Why?"

"Because they are bad."

"Ok. That's what Dropbox wants to solve."

So bottomline: Ask your potential customers.

Any business idea is a solution to someone's problem out there. Ask them if they are solving it, how they are solving it, and if they would be willing to pay to have it solved.

It doesn't matter if it already exists if it can be done better."

Artist Manager Defined: Do's & Don'ts... Short & Sweet

I'll keep this short and sweet.

   Manager Roles
Their main role is enhancing a clients career
Let’s see if you have the right manager around you and what a manager actually is. A Manager is a:
·       Planner
·       Adviser
·       Organizer
·       Strategist
·       Overseer
·       Manipulator
·       Coordinator
·       Buffer
·       Detailed person
·       Travel companion
·       Friend (Trust)
·       Catalyst
·       Stakeholder

According to Billboard books, "Managers are people or firms that work with record companies, producers, agents, promoters, publicists and anyone else that’s necessary. The objective of a manager is simple: To make sure everyone pulls together with effectiveness and enthusiasm to make the artist shine. If that sounds like a tough order, just know that the reality of doing it consistently is even tougher.

Jim Morey, that worked with Neil Diamond and Dolly Parton said it best, “The artist is the corporation and the manager is the CEO.”

Manager Do’s and Don’ts

What a manager does, better yet, what they don’t do.
·       Promoting and exploiting – That's a Music Publisher (See above of the things a manager is to focus on for you to be a success)

·       Book your shows – That's a Booking Agent (Booking your shows and getting you paid gigs is not their job. They can partner and network with resources to get you access to these things but that's really the job of a booking agent... which you (the artist) pay for.

·       Pay your bills (Cell phone, studio time, showcases, etc.) - Don't even get me started. Investing in yourself is up to you. If a manager invests their money into your career they have now become an investor not a manager. Be careful with toting this line as you may end up with less ownership of your works even after a possible split up from your management team.

Keeping this short, simple and to the point will help you define who's already around you and if you had in mind the right things a manager is to be doing during your evaluation. How to find a good manager... coming soon.

Best regards,

5 Reasons You Shouldn’t Invest In Your Music Business.

Should you REALLY get into your music business?
After all – many new talents have started and many have fallen away, losing interest when they don’t have the support that matches their expectations, they consider money to be the problem, or the business is just too hard. How do you know if this is the game for you? How do you know if you are going to be different, and really make a difference in this game? This post is going to very quickly give you five signs that maybe you" shouldn’t" invest in the music business for yourself.

YOU SHOULD NOT INVEST IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IF:

5) YOU CAN NOT COMMIT TO ANYTHING – this should not be a jump-in, jump-out “hobby”. Investing in your music business can be a life changing event as you will be dedicating time, energy, research, development and money in cutting out a slither of recognition and exposure to your music/message. Anything less than an honest commitment is only going to result in disappointment. You have to really, really want it. Do you? Then prove it!

4) YOU’D RATHER WATCH OTHERS SUCCEED – Everyday there are exciting stories being told on the internet sites, blogs, in newspapers and magazines, etc and how successful many talents or entertainers are in our market. Perhaps, though, you are just the kind of person who likes watching others find success and would simply encourage them. If that’s you, and you really don’t want success as a talent, then this isn’t the area for you. If you do it for the art, then GREAT! But when you want to make money, then it is a business. You’re going to need to stop watching and start doing.

3) YOU WANT YOUR INCOME GUARANTEED – Were you born with a silver spoon in your mouth? Some of you have and others have not. Maybe you are just content with the wealth that you already have, and don’t have any risk of losing it. In that case, you don’t NEED the music business (unless you just want to get in the game). The income in the Music Business can be exponential and it can also be non-existent. Do you have the resolve and commitment to work to a point of being able to create income at an expectancy level? You go to work, you get a check. This is work that does not guarantee you anything more than what you put into it and even that isn't guaranteed. I can guarantee you more work in development, practice, growth, legalities, meetings, planning, presentations, performances, branding, marketing and more and more research, more and more learning. Got it! - #NoDaysOff

Productivity. Leverage. Focus.

2) YOU WON’T READ ANYTHING EVER – As a professional, you’ll need to read. Period. This does not necessarily mean reading books (though, reading books are a great source of information!) However, you may need to read contracts, blogs, newspaper articles, leases, or one of a thousand other documents. If you refuse to read, ever – The Music Business might not be for you. The industry might look easy but it’s intricate and is the reason why many do not make it far. It would be better to HAVE and not need then NEED and not have… Knowledge. You’re reading right now, so you got this one.

1) YOU DON’T WANT TO BUILD THE LIFE YOU’VE ENVISIONED – We all have dreams but many don’t see them clearly enough to go and get it. Many apply invisible obstacles in front of themselves, giving a mental block to ever getting started or pursuing their dream. “It’s too hard” – Success isn’t easy. “I don’t have the time” – But you have time for things that have less meaning… make time. “I don’t have the money” – Money is a utility to find your why. WHY do you want to live this dream? Your why is a reason bigger than your fear/challenges.

Shaheim Says... Asking for advice isn't a crime.

Hello Everyone,

I've noticed that so many people want to be successful and that's awesome. I think it's fantastic that they want to do something with their lives. They even want to do something to help someone else's life as well. But I collectively witness that many of them, if not most, aren't willing to ask for help to do it. Asking for help isn't a crime. It's not that bad, especially if it will enrich your life or help you get to your goal. Paying for advice seems to be even more egregious to people as they feel they won't get the result they were looking for (but they still pay for college but that's another story). So why is it so many don't do it? Why don't they ask for advice? You know why? Because "what's easy to do is also easy not to do." - Jim Rohn

"Don't wish it were easier, wish you were better." - Jim Rohn

Listen, I became a consultant to help others make sense of all those ideas and dreams they have. I help people break down the barriers to reveal the person they are happy to live with... themselves. It's not easy showing people their reflection and the perception they are giving off without them realizing it. Take control of your life by taking control of your thoughts, feelings and most of all your actions and move them into one direction for personal achievement and growth.

"Success is what it means to you." - Shaheim Kellum

So ask yourself what it truly means to have victory. I bet I can show you plenty of victories in your life and some we all take for granted. So, how hard is it to ask for help? To some it's gut wrenching, to others it's easy and for the rest it's what they needed all along but kept on denying to themselves the idea that it might actually work. People are out there in many professions looking to tell their story so they can help someone else, you just have to ask. Shaheim Says... Networking is ONLY handing over your business card?

Shaheim Says...

"Networking is more than just handing over a business card, it's making an investment in yourself." - Shaheim Kellum

Huh? How could it be an investment in yourself, you ask? Easy, it's you choosing yourself and you putting forth the effort to learn about yourself. For example, you attend a networking event and speak to a person that seems to be of interest. The conversation is brief and non-engaging. And let's say you hand your business card to the person. Will they call? Maybe. Maybe not. But you would not have learned anything about yourself until the person takes action on either side. If the person calls, though your conversation was brief and non-engaging, it may have been powerful enough for the person to consider you a resource or an opportunity. If the person doesn't call, then it has taught you that you may want to work on your engagement and conversation skills.

You see, the business card is the proposal or offer you give out to make a connection for further conversation, acquisition of services and/or future endeavors. But the real lesson is how effective you were in opening your mouth. As I always say "every time you open your mouth, you tell the world who you are, so you might as well have something to say." Shaheim Says Video...

So let me ask you this, would you invest into something that is worth it? What about yourself, do you think you're worth it? Do you feel like you are worth your own time? The thought of you not answering "YES" to these questions would be astounding as we all think we're worth it. (You better be, if you're looking to be in business.) But knowing that you would invest into something that you feel is worth it, is one of the greatest obstacles to overcome in making a decision. Don't you agree?

"Time to take action."
Let's dramatically improve your business.

Choosing Yourself

Choosing yourself has to be one of the best concepts I ever learned. What do I mean? I mean, you don't need someone to say "I choose {insert your name here} or "I choose you."

You, can say it. Will it mean anything? Well, that's up to you. You see, people have this notion we've grown accustomed to where we seek the approval or recommendation of others to be chosen. To feel like we've made it. Do you need someone to tell you that you're a leader, an innovator or a success? If you think it's possible or you think it's so, then do it for you.

"Success is what it means to you." - Shaheim Kellum

I'll explain that quote at another time but the point is, you can choose. And if no one has ever said it to you before, YOU, can choose you.

So now that you're the "Chosen One", you can make an investment into yourself. Your personal knowledge, your productivity and your capabilities are all areas of value. They're valuable to you and others but until you invest in the development of yourself, you won't grow. (

Challenge

Here's my challenge to you. Challenge yourself by asking, what did I learn about myself in a given situation. It could be an interaction, performing an activity or studying a new concept to implement in your business. Every situation, every interaction and every activity has a lesson to be learned. How you find that lesson is a reflection of your current understanding of yourself. So it's important to be honest with yourself, and if you don't know then you don't know but the challenge is to find out.

The Best Thank You, You Can Get Is A Great Testimonial.

 Like my page

To Shaheim "Mr. Cynclair" Kellum

I completed the last Session of the "How to Manage Yourself" Training Course. It's been 12 weeks of knowledge, goal setting and results for all the participants. I thank every single one of the participants their attention and efforts in making this program a success.

Here is one of the testimonials I received after the completion of the 12 Week Course:
From Michael Egleton:
"I'd like to say a few words about my friend, Mr. Cynclair and the "How To Manage Yourself Seminar". First I'd like to say thank you for your time and knowledge you imparted to me which has made me a better entrepreneur and an overall better person. I'm more in tune with the business climate of today. Mr. Cynclair the instructor, was just awesome! One could tell the preparation and care that went into each word of the presentation for each session. He was direct and to the point. Each concise sentence was packed with knowledge and direction. Each component was broken down and easily understood.
Follow MeThese principals had no limitations on them and can be used in any aspect of business. I could tell he intended it to be this way. Sessions were always interesting, energetic and challenging. They left me looking forward to the next session to see what else I didn't know! During this time I began to actually put into play the information we were learning in the sessions. After doing this, I watched things increase by leaps and bounds. There were measurable increases in every area of my music business model. They weren't small changes either. The increase of percentages were dramatic.

Because of this Seminar, I have more balance to my life. This is because of the time management techniques learned during the sessions. I have more direction, focus and structure now because of a better understanding of what it is I'm doing. The sessions made me look into myself and discover the why's, how's and what's of me. Not only to find it but develop it and be able to measure the progress and search out short comings to make adjustments.

Thank you Mr. Cynclair for taking the time out of your life to impart into mine. For providing tools to achieve the success I set out for. May God Bless you richly."
