3 Reasons Why Businesses Fail.

 Like my page

I tried to figure out why most businesses fail and most of all why I was failing.
It was 3 simple things: I had unclear visions, unclear objectives and I procrastinated.

 Follow me
1) UNCLEAR VISIONS - I saw so many great things but couldn't focus on what I really wanted to gain.

2) UNCLEAR OBJECTIVES - My tasks always kept me so "busy" but I wasn't being "productive".

3) PROCRASTINATION - Sometimes I would think of something that would be a reason to not do something. Even though I knew it was important and that I would eventually have to do it, I would table it and not get it done. Kind of like knowing you have that project or term paper to hand in but you wait until the last moment (usually the night before...guilty) in a panic to complete it.

17 Ways to Reinvent Yourself

Excellence is the minimum. Follow Me. Sign Up.

How do I reinvent myself?

Whatever you are looking to reinvent about yourself know that it’s going to take discipline to stay on track. #NoDaysOff When it comes to reinventing yourself you have to understand and decide on one thing. Who do you want it to matter to the most? Is it for yourself or for the people around you? If it’s for you, then you cannot be afraid to change a few things you aren’t happy with. I mean, we go through our lives every day in our pursuit of happiness and if certain portions of our lives aren’t bringing us happiness then change is a very feasible option.

If it’s for the people around you, your followers, or even your clients then it can be a bit more delicate. I always say “Every time you open your mouth, you’re telling the world who you are. So make it count.” What is it you want your audience to see? What is it you’re looking to change and how dramatic of a change will it be to the people that already support you? Just some things to think about before you start your journey. I’ve come up with a list of ways for reinventing yourself.

You can use any or all of these ways of reinventing yourself:

     Click Photo to Sign Up
  1. Decide what areas of your life you want to reinvent. (Also, look at how this change affects the other parts of your life.)
  2. Make a list of the changes you’re looking to make. Get specific. It’s more about the smaller details that will affect the habits you are looking to change or enhance.
  3. Evaluate the changes and how it will affect you and the people around you.
  4. Evaluate how you present yourself and the subtle changes you can make to make those engagements impactful.
  5. TAKE ACTION!
  6. Find people that you would like to learn from or collaborate with in this change. They may know more about its effects than you do at the moment.
  7. Look for people that inspire you. Added inspiration to an already powerful and motivated fire is like adding fuel to it. It will only drive more action.
  8. Read. Research. Study. – If you’re going to try something even if you think it’s new, it probably is a derivative or originated in some way from something else. Research it and give it real meaning.
  9. Be persistent. You want this change more than anyone and only you understand why it means so much. Let the world see that meaning.
  10. TAKE ACTION!
  11. Use Clarity, Communication and Collaboration. You’ll get better the more you take action with it.
  12. Explore new areas of your city or other locations. See the difference in personalities and how much they are drawn to you.
  13. Ask a lot of questions. Know any mentors or consultants… hint-hint… wink-wink. ;)
  14. TAKE ACTION!
  15. Seek new information, knowledge and ideas.
  16. Consistency is the key, when it comes to reinvention. Stay with it!
  17. TAKE ACTION! (I think you get it by now.)

I want you to do this exercise: Put your arms down at your side. Now, raise your arms out to the side as if you were a human version of the capital letter ‘T’. Now reach all the way up where your hands touch way above your head. Got it? Now realize all of that space from your side all the way to the top of your head. That is your comfort zone. Now I want you to pick a spot on the other side (far side) of the room. It doesn’t matter how far, just far enough where it is out of your immediate reach. If where you stand is your comfort zone, would you be able to get to the spot on the other side of the room without moving? Probably not! But by taking a step toward the spot you are leaving your comfort zone (taking action) and to reinvent yourself, that’s exactly what you’re going to need to do.

Good Luck!

9 Quotes from Shaheim to Inspire your Business

Shaheim Says:

"A goal is but a wish unless it has a deadline and a measurable result."

"Getting specific in what you want to accomplish is super important in the planning. We work in Vision, Value and Objective to get goals completed and keep productivity high. To do this we look at what determines if the vertical or venture is a success to your calculated amount."

"The hardest part is to find someone legit that doesn't want you for all your money just to do something I love... The person that you need to put in power is YOU. You are the number 1 asset you need and will set the stage for the culture of business you want around you. Got it?"

"...over the years and in my own opinion, I've learned the top 3 things that keep people from succeeding are; an unclear vision, unclear objectives and procrastination."

"Every time you open your mouth to speak, you're letting the world know who you are. Make sure you have something to say. Make sure you use your words for construction of others not destruction."

"There is evidence that no matter what you do, you only have two hours of peak performance every day. Two hours. It proves your productivity is a scarce resource and you have even less time than you thought to get things done. Get the most done in your peak time."

"SUCCESS IS A WAY OF LIFE! Take the time to invest in your success!"

"Having Top of Mind Awareness is all about being in the topic of conversation. That's the fight you have in being in business... being in the conversation as so many are not."

"... products and visuals help in marketing but the real question is, who does it represent? That's called Branding. That's what sells. That's what makes your leverage. That's what builds your audience and grows your fanbase. Make sense?"

"It's about doing what you love and sharing that with the world."

These are some of the topics and concepts I will be covering at the ONLY seminar I'll be doing this year. I've been constantly asked if and when I'd do a seminar and I think the time is right. Get to New York City for the POWERFUL orientation at my POWER SEMINAR TO SUCCESS

Would you invest $3 Billion in a professional sports team?

I was asked, "Why would someone buy a sports team for $500 million to $3 billion dollars when there are ten million other "better" investments?"

My Answer: "Owning a sports team is like real estate, property can appreciate year over year. The selling of tickets, hosting concerts, events and other operations are similar to renting out your apartments for short spurts and a high roll revenue towards your ROI. Plus if the team is doing well, advertising/sponsorship dollars come into play. Look at Dallas Cowboys Stadium: they made in revenue in the first 6 weeks what they spent to build the entire stadium and that was without a title sponsor. (Now AT&T Stadium... ka-ching). The Cowboys collect between $17M-$19M a year and that's just to carry a name on the building. I won't even get into TV rights and revenue.

Any investment is risky but doing it in something you enjoy won't feel like a loss. Like others have said, sometimes it's just passion

One other thing, just like in real estate, your worth/sale of the property (stadium/arena) is based on the recent market sales. So when the L.A. Clippers were bought for a high selling price of $2 Billion, the sale of the Charlotte Hornets (formerly the Bobcats) went up almost 21%  ($600M to $725M) without even winning another game.

If you know how it works or better yet, how it works for you then invest in it. :)

Best regards,
Shaheim

5 Reasons You Shouldn’t Invest In Your Music Business.

Should you REALLY get into your music business?
After all – many new talents have started and many have fallen away, losing interest when they don’t have the support that matches their expectations, they consider money to be the problem, or the business is just too hard. How do you know if this is the game for you? How do you know if you are going to be different, and really make a difference in this game? This post is going to very quickly give you five signs that maybe you" shouldn’t" invest in the music business for yourself.

YOU SHOULD NOT INVEST IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IF:

5) YOU CAN NOT COMMIT TO ANYTHING – this should not be a jump-in, jump-out “hobby”. Investing in your music business can be a life changing event as you will be dedicating time, energy, research, development and money in cutting out a slither of recognition and exposure to your music/message. Anything less than an honest commitment is only going to result in disappointment. You have to really, really want it. Do you? Then prove it!

4) YOU’D RATHER WATCH OTHERS SUCCEED – Everyday there are exciting stories being told on the internet sites, blogs, in newspapers and magazines, etc and how successful many talents or entertainers are in our market. Perhaps, though, you are just the kind of person who likes watching others find success and would simply encourage them. If that’s you, and you really don’t want success as a talent, then this isn’t the area for you. If you do it for the art, then GREAT! But when you want to make money, then it is a business. You’re going to need to stop watching and start doing.

3) YOU WANT YOUR INCOME GUARANTEED – Were you born with a silver spoon in your mouth? Some of you have and others have not. Maybe you are just content with the wealth that you already have, and don’t have any risk of losing it. In that case, you don’t NEED the music business (unless you just want to get in the game). The income in the Music Business can be exponential and it can also be non-existent. Do you have the resolve and commitment to work to a point of being able to create income at an expectancy level? You go to work, you get a check. This is work that does not guarantee you anything more than what you put into it and even that isn't guaranteed. I can guarantee you more work in development, practice, growth, legalities, meetings, planning, presentations, performances, branding, marketing and more and more research, more and more learning. Got it! - #NoDaysOff

2) YOU WON’T READ ANYTHING EVER – As a professional, you’ll need to read. Period. This does not necessarily mean reading books (though, reading books are a great source of information!) However, you may need to read contracts, blogs, newspaper articles, leases, or one of a thousand other documents. If you refuse to read, ever – The Music Business might not be for you. The industry might look easy but it’s intricate and is the reason why many do not make it far. It would be better to HAVE and not need then NEED and not have… Knowledge. You’re reading right now, so you got this one.

1) YOU DON’T WANT TO BUILD THE LIFE YOU’VE ENVISIONED – We all have dreams but many don’t see them clearly enough to go and get it. Many apply invisible obstacles in front of themselves, giving a mental block to ever getting started or pursuing their dream. “It’s too hard” – Success isn’t easy. “I don’t have the time” – But you have time for things that have less meaning… make time. “I don’t have the money” – Money is a utility to find your why. WHY do you want to live this dream? Your why is a reason bigger than your fear/challenges.

Shaheim Says... Networking is ONLY handing over your business card?

Shaheim Says...

"Networking is more than just handing over a business card, it's making an investment in yourself." - Shaheim Kellum

Huh? How could it be an investment in yourself, you ask? Easy, it's you choosing yourself and you putting forth the effort to learn about yourself. For example, you attend a networking event and speak to a person that seems to be of interest. The conversation is brief and non-engaging. And let's say you hand your business card to the person. Will they call? Maybe. Maybe not. But you would not have learned anything about yourself until the person takes action on either side. If the person calls, though your conversation was brief and non-engaging, it may have been powerful enough for the person to consider you a resource or an opportunity. If the person doesn't call, then it has taught you that you may want to work on your engagement and conversation skills.

You see, the business card is the proposal or offer you give out to make a connection for further conversation, acquisition of services and/or future endeavors. But the real lesson is how effective you were in opening your mouth. As I always say "every time you open your mouth, you tell the world who you are, so you might as well have something to say." Shaheim Says Video...

So let me ask you this, would you invest into something that is worth it? What about yourself, do you think you're worth it? Do you feel like you are worth your own time? The thought of you not answering "YES" to these questions would be astounding as we all think we're worth it. (You better be, if you're looking to be in business.) But knowing that you would invest into something that you feel is worth it, is one of the greatest obstacles to overcome in making a decision. Don't you agree?

"Time to take action."
Let's dramatically improve your business.

Choosing Yourself

Choosing yourself has to be one of the best concepts I ever learned. What do I mean? I mean, you don't need someone to say "I choose {insert your name here} or "I choose you."

You, can say it. Will it mean anything? Well, that's up to you. You see, people have this notion we've grown accustomed to where we seek the approval or recommendation of others to be chosen. To feel like we've made it. Do you need someone to tell you that you're a leader, an innovator or a success? If you think it's possible or you think it's so, then do it for you.

"Success is what it means to you." - Shaheim Kellum

I'll explain that quote at another time but the point is, you can choose. And if no one has ever said it to you before, YOU, can choose you.

So now that you're the "Chosen One", you can make an investment into yourself. Your personal knowledge, your productivity and your capabilities are all areas of value. They're valuable to you and others but until you invest in the development of yourself, you won't grow. (

Challenge

Here's my challenge to you. Challenge yourself by asking, what did I learn about myself in a given situation. It could be an interaction, performing an activity or studying a new concept to implement in your business. Every situation, every interaction and every activity has a lesson to be learned. How you find that lesson is a reflection of your current understanding of yourself. So it's important to be honest with yourself, and if you don't know then you don't know but the challenge is to find out.

To reach your goals this year, you should do these 6 Steps.

 Follow Me

Well 2015 is here and if you like it or not, your unfinished goals from last year are still here too. The only reason they made it this far is because they're still on your list of things to do. Now it's time to stop procrastinating and get some of those goals accomplished.

  1. Break down your goals into specific and attainable ones. When the New Year comes in, we tend to set goals that are too vague or very general. You have to get specific. Break down the goal to what it is you specifically want to attain by accomplishing it. Set a date of completion and make it attainable. If you want to sell 1 million books, that's great but let's start by selling the first 100, okay?
  2. Have an action plan. When we are working on a project or a task or tackling something on our to do list, it's never just what's on the list.We tend to add so many things to the task that we fail to ever get started on the one we set out to do. Stop looking at the mountain of stairs and think about the step in front of you. Each task should be broken down (like in step 1) to get you closer to your ultimate goal. Take it one at a time before moving to the next step in your plan.
  3. Partner up/network with people. Sometimes just "thinking" that you can do all the work yourself is too much to handle. So why try to do it all on your own? Try to connect with people of like minds and, in some areas, excelled capabilities to help you get your tasks done. I always say "instead of having 1 person do 100% of the work, get 100 people to do 1% each." (And yes, that does equal 100%).
  4. Be prepared for obstacles. Back in the tenth grade I read John Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men" for my English class. I wasn't the biggest fan of reading at the time but I did affix a quote to myself from it. One of the best quotes I've read in it was, "the best laid plans of mice and men, often go astray." So true indeed. This quote helped me understand that no matter how hard you plan and how much you think ahead, when the time comes to take action something will go wrong. Things never go as planned so expect them not to. Be prepared and be proactive in anticipating the challenges that may arise.
  5. Do not think failure is not an option. Failure is an option and so is success. You have to decide what your option will be. What you know you should be doing but in turn don't do at all, is a key example of failure being an option. An option you choose by not doing what you should be doing to achieve your goal. Let me be clear, even if you do the things you planned but still don't reach your goal doesn't mean you've failed. It just means you may have some tweaking to do before your success. Find out what it is early and adjust. "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." (Thomas A. Edison)
  6. Be decisive in your choices. I can't say it any clearer. Be decisive. Take out all of the excess remnants of other peoples opinions that aren't helping you achieve your goal. Remove all the excess "fluff" when people are explaining things to you and train your mind to get to the point of it, so you can make a logical decision. Try the Cost-Benefit Analysis which asks "What will it cost me? How will I benefit? and What is the risk? If the benefit can't outweigh the other two factors then the decision is easy... you don't do it. See? That wasn't hard. Now apply it to all your future decisions. One more thing, when I say "cost", I'm not just talking about money, the most valuable aspect you have in life is your time. Spend it wisely.

What's my real name?

What's my real name?

Shaheim aka Mr. Cynclair
(My ruffle shirt & bow tie is AWESOME!!!)
Hello,

Now many of you that have known me in the last decade have come to know me only as Mr. Cynclair. And that's great. There's something about that name that I've always loved. When I was younger I wanted to be like some of the super heroes I saw on TV and even some of the "Big Time" entertainers I was influenced by. In my early years, I practiced with all kinds of names until I couldn't find anything that existed to fit me. I did research, and everything, on names that would be able to describe me, my innovations and my capabilities. I soon realized that I was unique within in myself and wouldn't conform to just one name that can be defined in a dictionary. If I was going to be unique, I would have to create something that sounded like I was important, intelligent and to be one of the only people with that name that people would know if asked. So I created a name that I felt would embody the persona of who I would become while still tying it to the things that made me happy.

Here I am... Mr. CYNCLAIR
...but my family knows me as Shaheim.

I spend much of my time thinking, then planning and then implementing ways on how to reach every single one of my goals. And I have plenty. What I enjoy about how my mind works is something my Dad told me when I was younger: "To know something is for you, but to understand it is to teach it to someone else." Putting people first has allowed me to reach many of my goals, so I'm not gonna stop now. Funny thing is, "Shaheim" actually means "wisdom". Go figure.

I've worked in Retail, Sales, Management, I was and still am a Business Owner. I've worked in the Music Industry, Radio and as a Basketball Coach. I've even worked on a farm. Yes, a farm. Lol. I say all this to say, that I'm no stranger to hard work and my experiences have lead me to other professions I currently take on as a Mentor, Consultant, Public Speaker and an Licensed NYS Real Estate Agent in New York City.

I see the world in a way that can be only seen by those that have optimistic projections and commitments to understanding how things work. We have to leave this world in a better place than we got it. I do know that my life experiences can help others reach their dreams and seeing a window of opportunity to help people. Knowing this, I've lent my time, for free, to teach teleconference lessons on "How to Manage Yourself" and personalized 20 minute weekly consultations on how to get started or improve your business. Knowing what you want to do in life is the most invigorating and overwhelming feeling in life. But loving it along the way makes it worthwhile. I show you how.

Listen, my life experiences are flooded with failures but my successes have allowed me to put some color into the water. Kind of blend it all in to one big cup of "Life-Juice". I have so much belief in people that I want them to be able to see their potential one day. My hope is to help 10 Million people with my words, inspirations, lessons, classes, consultations and even from the stories in my experiences. My wife really wants me to write a book but I keep putting it off. Maybe this blog will help me get much of the writing done and help as many people as I can along the way. I am Shaheim Kellum aka Mr. Cynclair. :)
