You are Awesome

You Are Frickin' AWESOME!!! And that's not all. You truly won't be satisfied until you believe that. I mean it! You are awesome! Saying it out loud helps a bit but you must believe it. Self-affirmations work but only when your actions support it. You believe it so you become it. If you're awesome at something or people like how you do something, the next thing is to just do it. Do exactly what you're awesome at. Use your skills, your knowledge, your experience and use your creativity like no one else can. Be what you say you are and fight until you are what you have always believed yourself to be... AWESOME!!! For the LAST TIME, especially if no one else has said it to you, YOU ARE AWESOME and who knows that better than YOU!!!

That is all...

Success Frightens People

Success frightens people.

As much as we may say we want it, we don't want it bad enough. If it happened right now, it would be like looking into the sun. Blinding and overwhelming. It takes time to get used to unless you've been preparing for it all your life. When I was a kid, I used to practice looking directly into the sun. I knew it was bad for my eyes to do that but I would add a bit of time everyday to looking at the sun. Testing how much I can take before I had to turn away, shut my eyes or look away. How much could I take was always my question because there's something powerful out there and I want it.

Success frightens people. As much as we may say we want it, we don't want it bad enough. We don't want it as much as we want those extra minutes of sleep. We don't want it as much as we want to chill. We don't want it as bad or as much as we dream we do. A dream with no actions, no goals, no objectives is but a wish. When will you stop wishing and start acting on those thoughts, those dreams, those ideas. Watching others succeed is pleasing but it's not thoroughly satisfying. What did you do today, from the time you woke up, to get closer to your dream? What was it that woke you up? Do you wake up in a cold sweat because all you can think about is your success? Does your want for success interrupt your life habits? Where is your success list in your priorities?

Success frightens people. As much as we may say we want it, we don't want it bad enough. I think people have it wrong when they think about success. Success is the final result of the hard work. It's OK to dream but when you think about success, think about the hard work. I mean every rotten detail. Every point of the process. The type of focus where you feel like you're underwater and breathing is secondary to getting the job done. It consumes you and all you do... It sounds crazy but that's the balance between living and "LIVING". Living for a life that you don't need an escape from, loving what you do, feeling every speck of satisfaction in every deliberate action you make. Don't be afraid to succeed. If success was easy everyone would do it. Many of us won't succeed because we'll continue to get in our OWN way and until then, dreaming of success is the habit.

The truth is, Success frightens people. As much as we may say we want it, for some of us.....
We DO!

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure."

Do You Really Need a Manager?

Do You Really Need a Manager?

You may honestly think you do and that may be so but do you know what a manager is supposed to do for you? What kind of asset is he/her to your current level? Will your manager have to wear more hats than necessary? Remember your manager is not your ATM or your booking agent. They are theoretically a knowledgeable guide or an individual or company who guides the professional career of artists in the entertainment industry.
What if you could manage yourself? Some of you already are. But what if you learned and applied the knowledge in how to manage yourself in the real world. You see, a friend of mine told me this, "for an artist to be successful, they must either listen extremely well or have a lot of money." If you're the ladder then you have expendable income to be able to make mistakes and it not really effect your finances. If you're like the many artists that I've met over the years, finances are not as dispensable and every dollar spent is crucial. Now, what if you were taught how to hire people to your team, how to network and how to build a proper fan base (outside of just social media)? What if you were shown how to make a profit in the same system that has been keeping you out of ring. Would you be interested? Then what's stopping you from applying these principles? I do have the answers. I guarantee you would be much more productive than you are right now and all you'll need is a little bit of money to do it. Oh, but you're still going to need to listen extremely well for it to work.

I've conducted market research and asked a significant number of talent and professionals, around the U.S., questions about what they would consider a need in order to have a career in today’s music business.
Questions such as:
• Other than money, what struggles does an Independent Artist go through?
• What’s the biggest misconception that independent talents have?
• How do I build a real fan base and make money?

After compiling the information gathered and deliberating on the most important effects, I have been on a mission to help talent that is willing to devote their time into building a business from their entertainment careers.

So, guess what? I'm going to write a book on artist development. Stay tuned.

What kind of mentality differentiates billionaires from millionaires, and "ordinary people"?

Good day,

While doing some reading I came across this article that I felt would be interesting enough for you. It touches on the mentality people have that differentiates them from being a Billionaire to a Millionaire to an "ordinary person".

What kind of mentality differentiates billionaires from millionaires, and "ordinary people"?

"I live and work in Tech/SF/Silicon Valley. I know a few billionaires, a TON of millionaires and even more ordinary folks.

The main thing I see, at least in the tech community is that millionaires tend to be really good at understanding systems of value creation (AKA successful startups) and placing themselves into those systems effectively. They smartly interview for and get great jobs in these companies. They not only do that, but they are smart enough to understand the culture being put into place and they take on the values of that culture and expand those values. They go out and recruit their smart friends and add to the cult. Over laced on this mindset is the idea that the world is a semi-set place. It's changing, but they view basically their role as something where they can take part in it all. The difference here then between millionaires and billionaires is quit vast.

Billionaires (AKA the founders of these few companies) tend to view the world as a tangibly fungible place. Billionaires see the world and want to move the puzzle pieces entirely around. They look for the faults in the ecosystem and identify massive holes and what could be added to take that value. Then they spend about 10 years maniacally attacking the gap, organizing people, recruiting and generally creating a cult. They create a bible so to speak of values and ideas that bundle together in an appealing way to attract other smart people (aka the future millionaires). The billionaires I know don't look forward to the weekend. They don't drink. They work from 5am to midnight everyday including weekends. They don't socialize with friends, they mix friends and work. It's all one big chain that supports their vision of the future and tying up the value. This is a different internal programming. It's admirable. Most folks actually rely on these billionaire groups to get their own jobs.

I think then the last group of "ordinary" folks are simply disconnected from these valuable new parts of the economy. What do you do if you live in Trent, Michigan today? The auto plants around you are closing. It's tough to be a billionaire potential person in that environment, but 100 years ago in 1912 it was actually possible. Ask the Ford family about this.

So overall, location, timing, industry and proximity can come into play. Tech is what's happening now, but other industries happened before. 1950s Texas oil well drilling, 1910s autos Michigan, 2010s Silicon Valley. There is much to discuss, but the mindset pieces are the key and may be universal."

I don't know which category you fall into yet but hopefully this will clear up any doubt you have towards your hopes and dreams. Not everyone is built the same and not everyone will be a billionaire but we all can be successful and rich when it comes to our satisfaction in life.

Would you invest $3 Billion in a professional sports team?

I was asked, "Why would someone buy a sports team for $500 million to $3 billion dollars when there are ten million other "better" investments?"

My Answer: "Owning a sports team is like real estate, property can appreciate year over year. The selling of tickets, hosting concerts, events and other operations are similar to renting out your apartments for short spurts and a high roll revenue towards your ROI. Plus if the team is doing well, advertising/sponsorship dollars come into play. Look at Dallas Cowboys Stadium: they made in revenue in the first 6 weeks what they spent to build the entire stadium and that was without a title sponsor. (Now AT&T Stadium... ka-ching). The Cowboys collect between $17M-$19M a year and that's just to carry a name on the building. I won't even get into TV rights and revenue.

Any investment is risky but doing it in something you enjoy won't feel like a loss. Like others have said, sometimes it's just passion

One other thing, just like in real estate, your worth/sale of the property (stadium/arena) is based on the recent market sales. So when the L.A. Clippers were bought for a high selling price of $2 Billion, the sale of the Charlotte Hornets (formerly the Bobcats) went up almost 21%  ($600M to $725M) without even winning another game.

If you know how it works or better yet, how it works for you then invest in it. :)

Best regards,
Shaheim

Faster, Cheaper... Bitter???

We all want to produce things faster so we can get it to the masses. Cheaper so you can save money and make more of it. And better so we can... wait. I meant bitter. Yes, bitter. We become bitter because it hardly ever works the way we want it to and we grow frustrated... or bitter.

Well, lets get to how you can get to "Better" instead of "Bitter".

Every industry has leaders and followers – what separates them is that the leaders are usually those with the most defensible points of differentiation. Whether in features and functionality, brand image, service, process, speed or convenience, uniqueness must be established and communicated for a company and its offerings to stand out in the market.

The key to long standing success is making that differentiation sustainable. You do so by getting inside your ideal customers head. Before you start thinking about which qualities set your business apart from similar companies, you need to know almost everything about your perfect customer.

When you’re identifying your ideal prospect, consider the following:
·       What does your perfect customer really want?
·       How can your product or service solve their problem(s)?
·       What factors motivate their buying decisions?
·       Why do your existing customers choose your business over              your competitors?
·       Here’s a two word question you should always ask yourself           about a product...

Are you ready?

Here it is…

Yep, I said it... Who cares?

Who really would care if you created this product? What problem does it solve. Remember, people don't want to buy things they want to solve their problems. Where are the people with this "problem" and how are you going to get your product to them?

Remember – it’s not enough to merely target a rough demographic. You need to know exactly who you want to sell to and why. Once you know this, you can get to work on the next phase... your unique selling proposition. Make your product and business BETTER.

Developing a Unique Selling Proposition... coming soon.

Best regards,
Shaheim Cynclair Kellum

5 Reasons You Shouldn’t Invest In Your Music Business.

Should you REALLY get into your music business?
After all – many new talents have started and many have fallen away, losing interest when they don’t have the support that matches their expectations, they consider money to be the problem, or the business is just too hard. How do you know if this is the game for you? How do you know if you are going to be different, and really make a difference in this game? This post is going to very quickly give you five signs that maybe you" shouldn’t" invest in the music business for yourself.

YOU SHOULD NOT INVEST IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IF:

5) YOU CAN NOT COMMIT TO ANYTHING – this should not be a jump-in, jump-out “hobby”. Investing in your music business can be a life changing event as you will be dedicating time, energy, research, development and money in cutting out a slither of recognition and exposure to your music/message. Anything less than an honest commitment is only going to result in disappointment. You have to really, really want it. Do you? Then prove it!

4) YOU’D RATHER WATCH OTHERS SUCCEED – Everyday there are exciting stories being told on the internet sites, blogs, in newspapers and magazines, etc and how successful many talents or entertainers are in our market. Perhaps, though, you are just the kind of person who likes watching others find success and would simply encourage them. If that’s you, and you really don’t want success as a talent, then this isn’t the area for you. If you do it for the art, then GREAT! But when you want to make money, then it is a business. You’re going to need to stop watching and start doing.

3) YOU WANT YOUR INCOME GUARANTEED – Were you born with a silver spoon in your mouth? Some of you have and others have not. Maybe you are just content with the wealth that you already have, and don’t have any risk of losing it. In that case, you don’t NEED the music business (unless you just want to get in the game). The income in the Music Business can be exponential and it can also be non-existent. Do you have the resolve and commitment to work to a point of being able to create income at an expectancy level? You go to work, you get a check. This is work that does not guarantee you anything more than what you put into it and even that isn't guaranteed. I can guarantee you more work in development, practice, growth, legalities, meetings, planning, presentations, performances, branding, marketing and more and more research, more and more learning. Got it! - #NoDaysOff

2) YOU WON’T READ ANYTHING EVER – As a professional, you’ll need to read. Period. This does not necessarily mean reading books (though, reading books are a great source of information!) However, you may need to read contracts, blogs, newspaper articles, leases, or one of a thousand other documents. If you refuse to read, ever – The Music Business might not be for you. The industry might look easy but it’s intricate and is the reason why many do not make it far. It would be better to HAVE and not need then NEED and not have… Knowledge. You’re reading right now, so you got this one.

1) YOU DON’T WANT TO BUILD THE LIFE YOU’VE ENVISIONED – We all have dreams but many don’t see them clearly enough to go and get it. Many apply invisible obstacles in front of themselves, giving a mental block to ever getting started or pursuing their dream. “It’s too hard” – Success isn’t easy. “I don’t have the time” – But you have time for things that have less meaning… make time. “I don’t have the money” – Money is a utility to find your why. WHY do you want to live this dream? Your why is a reason bigger than your fear/challenges.

The Best Thank You, You Can Get Is A Great Testimonial.

 Like my page

To Shaheim "Mr. Cynclair" Kellum

I completed the last Session of the "How to Manage Yourself" Training Course. It's been 12 weeks of knowledge, goal setting and results for all the participants. I thank every single one of the participants their attention and efforts in making this program a success.

Here is one of the testimonials I received after the completion of the 12 Week Course:
From Michael Egleton:
"I'd like to say a few words about my friend, Mr. Cynclair and the "How To Manage Yourself Seminar". First I'd like to say thank you for your time and knowledge you imparted to me which has made me a better entrepreneur and an overall better person. I'm more in tune with the business climate of today. Mr. Cynclair the instructor, was just awesome! One could tell the preparation and care that went into each word of the presentation for each session. He was direct and to the point. Each concise sentence was packed with knowledge and direction. Each component was broken down and easily understood.
Follow MeThese principals had no limitations on them and can be used in any aspect of business. I could tell he intended it to be this way. Sessions were always interesting, energetic and challenging. They left me looking forward to the next session to see what else I didn't know! During this time I began to actually put into play the information we were learning in the sessions. After doing this, I watched things increase by leaps and bounds. There were measurable increases in every area of my music business model. They weren't small changes either. The increase of percentages were dramatic.

Because of this Seminar, I have more balance to my life. This is because of the time management techniques learned during the sessions. I have more direction, focus and structure now because of a better understanding of what it is I'm doing. The sessions made me look into myself and discover the why's, how's and what's of me. Not only to find it but develop it and be able to measure the progress and search out short comings to make adjustments.

Thank you Mr. Cynclair for taking the time out of your life to impart into mine. For providing tools to achieve the success I set out for. May God Bless you richly."

Go For it!!!

Go for it!!!

I have a lot of thoughts, maybe too many, but I was extremely frustrated one evening and my thoughts were jumble around. Scrambled would be the appropriate word, accompanied by a wave like headache. You know the one that feels like your heartbeat is in your brain and with every pulse you feel the pain. Ouch!!! It had me in partial tears. I decided to take a late night walk and see if the fresh air could lead me to some relief.
I wonder, have you ever looked up in the night sky and wondered what all those moving-blinking blips of light are? I don't mean the stars. Lol. It's something a lot closer. If you look carefully enough you can see them swirling in these around about patterns. It turns out they are actually airplanes. On this headache riddled night, I sat outside by the pier of the Hudson River and saw twenty planes flying above me and the coast of New Jersey. What I noticed was an elaborate dance in the sky that displayed these planes at different elevations, longitudes & latitudes, speeds and directions. I guess you could call it airplane traffic. They just kept swirling like a moth deciding if it wants to land as close to the flame it is attracted to.
I was a bit more relaxed seeing this elaborate ballet and my headache started to subside. After a while, my attention was captured by a plane that flew much lower than the rest of the planes. Much faster, presumably because it was closer to me, and it was determined to "B-line" to its destination, the quickest route. And that's just it. In business, there are all kinds of companies swirling along at different altitudes and probably extremely profitable in their journey. Some being cautious and some just wanting to land somewhere. But there is always that start up company carrying all the frustrations and headaches of the business. Flying way below the radar of detection, not worrying about the traffic above and fiercely focused on one objectiveGetting to it's destination. It got me thinking, maybe more companies should take a moment to look at the night sky.
Instead of having so many objectives and running them all through your mind at the same time to the point your are overwhelmed with frustration, take a lower trajectory, pick one objective and GO FOR IT!!!

What's my real name?

What's my real name?

Shaheim aka Mr. Cynclair
(My ruffle shirt & bow tie is AWESOME!!!)
Hello,

Now many of you that have known me in the last decade have come to know me only as Mr. Cynclair. And that's great. There's something about that name that I've always loved. When I was younger I wanted to be like some of the super heroes I saw on TV and even some of the "Big Time" entertainers I was influenced by. In my early years, I practiced with all kinds of names until I couldn't find anything that existed to fit me. I did research, and everything, on names that would be able to describe me, my innovations and my capabilities. I soon realized that I was unique within in myself and wouldn't conform to just one name that can be defined in a dictionary. If I was going to be unique, I would have to create something that sounded like I was important, intelligent and to be one of the only people with that name that people would know if asked. So I created a name that I felt would embody the persona of who I would become while still tying it to the things that made me happy.

Here I am... Mr. CYNCLAIR
...but my family knows me as Shaheim.

I spend much of my time thinking, then planning and then implementing ways on how to reach every single one of my goals. And I have plenty. What I enjoy about how my mind works is something my Dad told me when I was younger: "To know something is for you, but to understand it is to teach it to someone else." Putting people first has allowed me to reach many of my goals, so I'm not gonna stop now. Funny thing is, "Shaheim" actually means "wisdom". Go figure.

I've worked in Retail, Sales, Management, I was and still am a Business Owner. I've worked in the Music Industry, Radio and as a Basketball Coach. I've even worked on a farm. Yes, a farm. Lol. I say all this to say, that I'm no stranger to hard work and my experiences have lead me to other professions I currently take on as a Mentor, Consultant, Public Speaker and an Licensed NYS Real Estate Agent in New York City.

I see the world in a way that can be only seen by those that have optimistic projections and commitments to understanding how things work. We have to leave this world in a better place than we got it. I do know that my life experiences can help others reach their dreams and seeing a window of opportunity to help people. Knowing this, I've lent my time, for free, to teach teleconference lessons on "How to Manage Yourself" and personalized 20 minute weekly consultations on how to get started or improve your business. Knowing what you want to do in life is the most invigorating and overwhelming feeling in life. But loving it along the way makes it worthwhile. I show you how.

Listen, my life experiences are flooded with failures but my successes have allowed me to put some color into the water. Kind of blend it all in to one big cup of "Life-Juice". I have so much belief in people that I want them to be able to see their potential one day. My hope is to help 10 Million people with my words, inspirations, lessons, classes, consultations and even from the stories in my experiences. My wife really wants me to write a book but I keep putting it off. Maybe this blog will help me get much of the writing done and help as many people as I can along the way. I am Shaheim Kellum aka Mr. Cynclair. :)
